What is Administration of Medical Gases?

The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Administering Emergency Medical Gases (RQF)has been specifically designed for those who have a responsibility for providing treatment to patients who need medical gases administrating in Prehospital care environments, such as: those working in the police force, fire service or private ambulance sector.

During this half day course, learners will develop the necessary knowledge and skills needed for the safe, prompt and effective administration of emergency oxygen and analgesic agents.

The qualification remains valid for 1 year after qualification and will need annual recertification. 

Entry Requirements 

  • Must be 16yrs or older on the first day of training.
  • Completed a level 3 First Aid at Work or equivalent/higher qualification
  • Be trained in the use of an AED (if this is not included within your FAAW or other qualification)

What's Covered?

  • Understand the principles of administering emergency oxygen
  • Being able to administer oxygen in an emergency enviroment
  • Understanding the use of 50%/50% Nitrous Oxide
  • Being able to administer Nitrous Oxide
  • Use of Oxygen enhanced CPR (with AED)
  • Understand the indications, contraindications, cautions and risks of medical gases
  • Monitoring the effects of medical gases.
